Longwood Charter Question 1

APPOINTMENT OF CITY ADMINISTRATOR; QUALIFICATIONS; COMPENSATION.

Shall Article IV, Section 4.04 (a) of the City Charter be changed by deleting this paragraph that requires all candidates for the City Administrator position be screened by a committee consisting of members from either/or the Florida City and County Managers Association or International City Managers Association that are responsible for recommending candidates for such appointment and have the Commission adopt by ordinance the criteria for selecting a City Administrator?

Longwood Charter Question 2

ACCOUNTABILITY

Shall Article XII, Section 12.06 of the City Charter be changed by deleting the following sentence: "The Police Chief and the Fire Chief shall report directly to the City Administrator and shall serve at the pleasure of the City Administrator"?

Voter Registration

--Only voters registered in the cities specified may vote in the city elections. The Book Closing for the November 3 election was October 5. Currently there are 8,080 registered voters n Longwood and 20,446 registered voters in Oviedo.

Voting by Mail

--Voters may request an absentee ballot for these elections 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 407.585.VOTE (8683) or visiting www.VoteSeminole.org (Direct link: http://www.voteseminole.org/en-us/where_do_i_vote/absentee_ballot_request.php). Because of the large number of voters who made their requests last year, Longwood already has 1,012 and Oviedo already has 2,363 requests for absentee ballots. The first batch of absentee ballots will be mailed to local voters October 8. Overseas absentee ballots have already been mailed.

Early Voting

--Early Voting for Longwood voters will take place October 30 from 10-6; Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 from noon-4. The only Early Voting site for the Longwood election is at the Supervisor of Elections Office at 1500 East Airport Blvd., Sanford, FL 32772.

--Early Voting for Oviedo voters will take place October 30 from 10-6; Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The only Early Voting site for the Oviedo election is at the Oviedo City Hall at 400 Alexandria Blvd.

Candidate Finance Information

--All candidates in Seminole County now file versions of their campaign finance reports electronically. Those reports can be accessed online at www.VoteSeminole.org (Direct link: http://www.voteseminole.org/en-us/who_is_running_for_office/candidate_finance_reports.php).

Polls Open

--Polls for the two cities will be open on November 3 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

--Longwood will have one polling location for all city voters on Election Day: City Hall at 175 West Warren Ave.

--Oviedo will open all polling locations for the election. Voters must vote in the precinct location in which they reside on Election Day. Oviedo locations are:

Canvassing Board

The Seminole County Canvassing Board will canvass the city elections and meet at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 1500 E. Airport Blvd, Sanford, as follows:

--October 23, 2009, 10:00 a.m. for Logic and Accuracy Testing

--October 30, 2009, 4:00 p.m. for canvassing of absentee ballots

--November 3, 2009, 6:00 p.m. for Election Day canvassing

--November 6, 2009, 10:00 am for canvassing provisional ballots and election certification

--November 9, 2009, 10:00 a.m. to conduct the manual audit

The following incumbents up for reelection received no opposition and are therefore re-elected without opposition: Altamonte Springs commissioners Gardner Hussey and Sarah Reece; and Lake Mary commissioners George Duryea and Jo Ann Lucarelli
