How to Vote by Absentee Ballot
As authorized by Florida law, any eligible registered voter in Seminole County has the opportunity to request and vote by absentee ballot. As soon as they become available, absentee ballots are mailed to the address requested by the voter or may be picked up in person at the Supervisor of Elections Office.
Who can vote by absentee ballot?
If you are a qualified voter in the state, you are entitled to vote an absentee ballot.
How do I request an absentee ballot?
A request for an absentee ballot can be made online, in person, by mail or by telephone. Only the voter or a designated member of his or her immediate family or legal guardian can request an absentee ballot for the voter. Immediate family means the voter's spouse or the parent, child, grandparent, or sibling of the voter or of the voter's spouse.
What information must I provide to request an absentee ballot?
A request from the voter must include the following:
- The name of the voter for whom the ballot is requested
- The voter's address
- The voter's date of birth
- The voter's signature (written request only)
If the voter has designated an immediate family member or legal guardian to request an absentee ballot for him or herself, that designee must provide the above information in addition to the following:
- The requester's name
- The requester's address
- The requester's driver's license number, if available
- The requester's relationship to the voter
- The requester's signature (written request only)
When can I request an absentee ballot?
An absentee ballot may be requested at any time and is effective for all elections for which the voter is eligible through the next two regularly scheduled general elections. An absentee ballot request can also be made for a specific election.
To receive an absentee ballot by mail for a specific election, you must make the request no later than 5:00 p.m. on the last Wednesday prior to that election.
How and when will I receive my absentee ballot?
Absentee ballots are mailed as soon as they are available prior to each election to those voters who have requested an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots cannot be forwarded. After they become available, new absentee ballot requests are processed and mailed within two business days.
NOTE: The last day to request that an absentee ballot be mailed to you is 6 days prior to an election. After that time, ballots may be picked up at the Supervisor of Elections Office during regularly scheduled business hours.
Can I pick up an absentee ballot for another person?
Carry out ballots are available only during the five days prior to an election. A signed, written authorization from the voter is required, specifying the person to pick up the ballot, and if related, the relationship to the voter. The designee may only pick up two (2) absentee ballots per election other than his or her own, except for ballots picked up for members of his or her immediate family. The designee must provide photo and signature identification and complete an affidavit.
How do I return my absentee ballot?
Absentee ballots must be returned to the Supervisor of Elections by mail or delivery by the voter or another individual. Overseas voters click here.
Voted absentee ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on election day at the office of the Supervisor of Elections. A VOTED ABSENTEE BALLOT CANNOT BE ACCEPTED AT A POLLING PLACE.
If you are a first-time Seminole County voter who registered by mail you must provide required identification prior to 7 p.m. on election day for your absentee ballot to count.
